Modernizing Learning Spaces Across Campus

Fusion Digital partnered with Keuka College to bring 21st-century technology into two of its oldest academic buildings, creating flexible, high-quality learning environments for students and faculty. Here’s how.

The Objective

Keuka College, a leader in innovative teaching, is committed to providing students with relevant, forward-looking learning spaces. Two of the campus’s oldest academic buildings — Hegemen Hall (built in 1924) and Jephson Hall — were due for significant technology upgrades. While their historic architecture is a point of pride, the college needed to modernize the technology within to support hybrid and distance learning, interactive teaching, and consistent classroom experiences.

Adding to the challenge, the project had to be completed on a tight summer timeline, ensuring all classrooms were fully operational before the new school year began. Fusion Digital was tasked with designing, deploying, and commissioning systems that would elevate instruction while preserving the character of the spaces.

The Approach

Blending Tradition with Technology

Fusion Digital upgraded AV systems in both historic halls, carefully integrating modern technology without disrupting the buildings’ architectural charm.

Distance Learning Hub in Jephson Hall

In Jephson Hall, Fusion Digital created a dedicated distance learning hub anchored by a 110” LG commercial display, which now serves as the focal point for large-scale hybrid instruction. The system was further enhanced with Sony PTZ cameras, Shure beamforming microphones, and a Logitech Rally Bar, all working together to deliver seamless video conferencing and crystal-clear communication for both in-person and remote participants.

Campus-Wide Classroom Modernization

Across the two buildings, 25 classrooms were transformed with technology tailored to meet the needs of distance learning, hybrid instruction, and traditional lectures. Each space was equipped with Sony 75” commercial displays and ViewSonic interactive displays, giving faculty reliable visuals and interactive teaching tools. To ensure a consistent experience for instructors, Fusion standardized lectern setups with HP All-in-One PCs, articulating mounts, and wireless peripherals.

Enhanced Audio Infrastructure

The audio systems received a major upgrade with the installation of 68 Biamp in-ceiling speakers and 16 Sonance pendant speakers, supported by four Biamp DSPs and 24 Extron amplifiers. This combination provided robust, high-quality sound coverage throughout the classrooms. Fusion also reprogrammed the existing Extron control systems, extending their useful life while making operation simpler and more intuitive for faculty and staff.

Efficient Transition & Installation

To minimize disruption, Fusion assisted with the removal of outdated equipment and carefully managed the transition to the new systems. The upgrades were deployed quickly and efficiently, ensuring the project was completed within the compressed summer schedule so classrooms were ready for students and faculty by the first day of the semester.

The Results Driven Solution

Fusion Digital transformed two of Keuka’s most historic academic buildings into modern learning hubs while preserving their architectural character. In Jephson Hall, the 110” LG display serves as a striking focal point for large-scale hybrid instruction, supported by Sony PTZ cameras and Shure microphones for crystal-clear communication.

Across classrooms in both halls, Sony commercial displays and ViewSonic interactive displays provide crisp visuals and interactive teaching tools. Standardized instructor stations ensure faculty enjoy a consistent, user-friendly experience, while the integrated AV systems enable flexibility for hybrid, in-person, and ASL-focused instruction.

Most importantly, the project was completed on schedule, ensuring all 25 classrooms were ready for the fall semester. Fusion Digital’s efficient approach and close coordination with Keuka College staff minimized disruption and delivered maximum impact, empowering the college to continue its mission of innovative, student-focused teaching.
